The flight into space was probably written - nomen omen - in the stars. Because how else explain the fact that he was born on April 12, which is the International Day Manned Spaceflight Day? "Our man in space" was born exactly 40 years ago in Łódź and is currently preparing for a mission to the International Space Station. Thus, he will be the second Pole in history to explore space.
It can be said that during a space mission, it will be the right man at the right time place. Doctor Sławosz Uznański not only has an excellent education (double Master's degree in electronics from the Lodz University of Technology
University of Nantes, France, engineering degree from the Polytechnic University of Nantes; doctorate defended with distinction at the University of Aix-Marseille, France), but also excellent professional experience, what's more: also in the area related to space. He worked as a radiation effects engineer at STMicroelectronics (producer of technology for
space applications), as well as the Chief Engineer of the Large Collider Hadrons at CERN (to this day, Uznański emphasizes that this point is on his professional CV is my greatest pride). He was also, among others, a volunteer reviewer of many commercial satellite projects, such as the ICEYE constellation, as well as Polish missions
space technologies such as PW-SAT2, HyperSat, and EagleEye.
In March 2021, he participated in and won the recruitment process for the European Astronaut Corps 22.5 thousand other candidates! Thus he was chosen as one of 17 astronauts by the European Space Agency for training for a space mission. Thanks to this will be the second Pole (after Mirosław Hermaszewski, who flew into space in 1978.
and spent 8 days there), which will go down in the history of world Astronautics. Currently (since September 2023) is undergoing intensive training at the European Astronautical Center in Cologne (Germany).
As he says: it is not only his education that predisposes him to a space mission engineering (approx. 30 percent of the crew are usually scientists and engineers) and experience professional (his specialty is building systems that are very reliable and evaluating, what risks different environmental conditions carry, the errors that appear in their systems), but also his passions, including sports.
“In my private time, I like to travel, I like to explore the mountains, be on glaciers, conquer high peaks, and at the same time I grew up sailing and still do. […] This predisposes me to such exploration. To go somewhere further and see what is beyond the next peak, or maybe see what is behind our atmosphere. And I hope this profile of mine is quite complete
all aspects, professional requirements and character that allow me to do just that
look a little higher and fly beyond orbit" he said in an interview with RMF FM.
In another interview, he assured: "I feel with my whole being that if the meeting with me convinces you at least one person to take up science, to believe in themselves and not give up on their dreams, it's worth it. It's just worth doing it all.” We are even more happy that Dr. Sławosz Uznański accepted the invitation to the Summit and will be able to inspire the Summit with his example of a community to choose dreams rather than passively submit to what they bring reality.
