The Perspektywy Education Foundation announced on 24 November the TOP 15 Women in 5G – a non-ranked list of noted women who work with 5G, looking at it from various angles. At the Summit, the TOP 15 Women in 5G gala, organised in hybrid formula, is scheduled to start on 8 December at 8:25 PM. It will be an opportunity to meet the laureates and their fields of expertise. On 24 November announced its list of TOP 15 Women in 5G. It is a non-ranked list of exceptional women who work with 5G, looking at it from various angles (e.g., technological, legal, business or scientific). The list, also published in the November issue of the Perspektywy monthly, was created in relation with the Perspektywy Women in Tech Summit 2020 – Europe’s biggest conference for women in technology, which will be held online on 8 and 9 December. The goal of the TOP 15 list is to bring attention to the problem of lack of women in the 5G area, and – more broadly – in the telecom industry.
A study presented by the European Commission (June 2019) entitled “Women in the Digital Age” shows that although 57 per cent of university graduates in the European Union are women, only 24.9 per cent of them graduate with a degree in ICT, and very few of them start working in the industry (across Europe, only 17 per cent of experts in the field are women!). And yet today, diversity (of gender, but also race, opinion, points of view) in almost every business environment and industry is raised as a crucial element of success in a competitive market.
“We have noticed the problem of lack of women in 5G when preparing the Perspektywy Women in Tech Summit 2020, the largest event for women in technology in Europe,” says Dr Bianka Siwińska, CEO of the Perspektywy Education Foundation. “When we were seeking experts for the discussion panel on the 5G networks, with a lot of difficulty we managed to invite… one such woman.”
For this reason the 5G network will be one of the key subjects at the Perspektywy Women in Tech Summit 2020 and this is also where the idea for the TOP 15 Women in 5G list came from. The role of the list created by Perspektywy is to inspire young women, who are facing important life choices (studies, work) to pay attention to the 5G area (and ICT in a broader way) as an interesting career path.

Perspektywy Women in Tech Summit 2020, the biggest event for women in TECH&IT in Europe, will be held on 8 and 9 December, online. This year the event will go global, covering various time zones – from San Francisco to New Delhi. The Summit will be opened by, among others, Mariya Gabriel, the charismatic EU Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, who has been fighting for women’s presence and visibility in IT for many years. The invited guests will include a very special woman – Anna Lee Fisher, the legendary NASA astronaut, the first mother in space. We are in for two days of intense tech workshops, tech talks, mentoring sessions, and career counselling; on top of that, 40 tech companies will have their e-booths, creating the Career Expo – where there is a possibility of finding an internship or a job. There will be 150 speakers representing the world’s leading tech companies and the most ambitious research centres, such as MIT, Stanford University, Harvard, and Oxford. There will also be many side events (e.g., a Cyber Women Community meeting, 2nd Seminar for Computer Science Researchers, and a Virtual Dance Party). IT & TECH students can apply for free tickets.
